Older Fender Hook – Prevent String Breakage
Here’s a tip to reduce string breakage on an older Fender 400 or 1000 cable pedal steel with or without the ‘C type’ pull hooks in the changer. A strong wire, bent in a right angle, attached to the first string pull (high G# in this case).
The photo on the right is Al’s Fender 400, which he modified back in 1964, using wire from a coat hanger. In a conversation with Ralph Mooney in the early 2000’s, Al learned that Ralph did the same to his guitars back in the day. What a co-incidence!
